Silencio, cuarteto tipico de Tango

JOSÉ-LUIS BETANCOR - 1st Bandoneon
Born in Montevideo, José-Luis was for many years an active member of the tango scene of Uruguay, performing with orchestras such as Orquesta Típica Raul Novelli and Los Reyes del Ritmo. At the age of 30, he moved to Sydney, Australia, where he continued his career as a soloist, participating in CD and film recordings. Since 1998, he has lived in France and continues to perform all over Europe.

ROGER HELOU - Piano, Arrangements
Roger Helou founded Silencio and works as director of the group. He grew up in Buenos Aires, where he experimented with different kinds of popular styles: tango, bossa-nova and jazz. Later, his interests turned to the study of traditional tango music, and he focused on writing arrangements for orchestras and smaller ensembles. He played in Europe with tango-ensembles like Trio Miguel De Caro, Miguel Fernandez, Alfredo Marcucci and Sexteto Veritango and Ensamble Hyperion. Since 2003, he has lead regular courses and workshops in Paris on tango music performance.

GIOVANNI BARBATO - 1st Violin
Born in Naples, Giovanni Barbato studied at the "Conservatorio di Musica San Pietro a Majella di Napoli". Since 1996, he has won national and international competitions. He completed master courses with Corrado Romano, Salvatore Accardo and Franco Gulli (Indiana University - Bloomington, USA). He finished his studies with a Soloist Diploma at the "Musik Akademie der Stadt Basel" with Adelina Oprean. He has often been invited to play solo-concerts with orchestras in Argentina and Uruguay. Today, he works with several ensembles in Europe, including the "Marcelo Nisinman Trio".

WINNIE HOLZENKAMP - Double Bass
Winnie earned his diploma as soloist in the "Kölner Musikhochschule", Germany. He received a scholarship from the "German Academic Exchange Service" to live one year in Buenos Aires, where he became very deeply involved in tango playing, meeting musicians of the highest level (Ramiro Gallo, Hector Console, Horacio Cabarcos, Oscar Giunta). He studied at the "Escuela de música popular de Avellaneda", and was a member of the "Orquesta Escuela de Tango", directed by maestro Emilio Balcarce. He plays today with groups like "Marcelo Nisinman Trio", "Quinteto Rosario", "676 Nuevo Tango", "Puro Apronte" and "Sabor a Tango".
